IRS Assists Taxpayers Affected By Hurricane Sandy

Many small businesses have been affected by Frankenstorm Sandy!  Even many of our Southwest Florida Residents have been affected.  One of our clients owns a New Jersey Bakery that was destroyed due to the Storm Surge that hit New Jersey's coast.  We understand that with the Tax Deadline for Quarterly filings on October 31st, it was impossible for many business owners to even think about this deadline.  They had more important things to worry about.  But it looks like the IRS has given them a little leeway.  Hopefully, it will be enough.

The Blessing of Owning a Business in Southwest Florida

Great information in the Fort Myers News-Press today regarding a University of Florida study estimating Lee County is the State's top snowbird destination while Collier County ranks fourth.

Owning a business in Southwest Florida has its benefits from a lifestyle perspective.  The Summer months are slower business wise with most owners experiencing as much as a 30% drop from peak revenues in March; therefore, business owners have more time to get out and enjoy everything Gulf Coast living has to offer, e.g., beaches, boating, hiking, biking, birding, etc..  For those concerned about the Summer heat, once you live down here and become acclimated to the six months of consistent 90-93 degree days, you learn to avoid peak sun and enjoy mornings, afternoons, sunsets and evenings like nowhere else in the United States.

Of course you still have to work in the Summer. Business doesn't die. You just need to approach Summer like a squirrel approaches Winter in the North. You make your money (store your nuts) during late Fall, Winter and early Spring so you can enjoy paradise the rest of the year.

Here is the article:

Lee top county for snowbirds, Collier ranks fourth | The News-Press | news-press.com:

"A University of Florida report ranked Lee County as having an estimated 75,000 temporary residents during the peak winter season, the highest of any county in the state. Collier County ranked fourth, with an estimated 44,000 winter residents."
